Sheriff Sidney Dorsey was the elected sheriff of DeKalb County, Georgia, from 1996 to 2000. He was the first African American sheriff in the county's history. However, Dorsey's tenure was marred by allegations of corruption and nepotism. He was accused of using his office to enrich himself and his family members, as well as engaging in various forms of misconduct, including tampering with evidence and obstructing justice. In 2001, Dorsey was convicted on charges including racketeering, perjury, and obstruction of justice, and was sentenced to 35 years in prison. He was released in 2015 after serving 13 years.
